Softball Team Sweeps Catawba College

Game One

Game Two

SALISBURY, NC--Bloomsburg University softball standout Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) picked up her third win of the season and struck out 12 for the third consecutive game leading the Huskies to a 4-2 win and a sweep of Catawba College on Tuesday. The Huskies won the opener by a score of 2-1 in nine innings.

Reed, who now has 36 K's in 21 innings of work on the year, fanned at least one batter in each inning and closed out the game by getting two of the final three outs by strikeout.

Reed also helped herself with the bat doubling to open the game and coming around to score on a single by Natalie Zimmerman (State College/State College). Reed also doubled home a run in the second to make it 2-0. Later in the game Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) had a pinch single driving in a run with Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) hitting a solo home run in the seventh for an insurance run.

In game one, the Huskies were held hitless through the first innings and trailed 1-0 after allowing an unearned run in the first. Bloomsburg finally broke through with a run in the sixth inning when Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) singled home pinch-runner Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown) tying the game.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the ninth when Jen Miller (Muir/Williams Valley), who was placed on second as part of the tie-breaker, scored on a one-out hit from Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore). Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) retired Catawba in order in the ninth for the victory.

Bloomsburg, 7-1, plays at Wingate on Wednesday in a twinbill starting at 2 p.m.
